I HAVE LOST MY FAITH… in an historical Jesus.

April 25, 2013

I used to think that although ‘Christianity’ was clearly a Roman construct, that the religion still had it’s roots in a real Rabbi, probably an Essene – John the Baptist apparently was – and after all (the argument from authority), top Bible scholar, Bart D. Ehrman, has said that he thinks Christianity is based on a ‘real’ Jesus.

However, these days Ehrman’s main plank is that there MUST have been a real human at the start, because ‘Christianity’ has been SO successful… but without presenting any proof. Belief without knowledge is ‘faith’, which I think means the self-declared ‘agnostic’ Ehrman is actually a closet believer… or at least an ‘Agnostic Theist’. He may actually be losing his ‘faith’ too… he has recently been quoted as admitting “the Mythicist Position IS credible.”

My own position is not based simply on the total lack of any real evidence for an historical Jesus, but for many reasons, such as the fact that Paul does not seem to refer to a physical person in the Epistles he actually wrote. For the benefit of those who do not know – most of Paul’s letters were penned long after his death and the genuine earlier epistles may have been ‘tweaked’.

Also, the gospels seem to have been written in Rome, in the most common language of the Empire, Koine Greek, i.e. NOT in ‘Aramaic’, the Hebrew derived language that an historic Jesus would have spoken. ‘Mark’, the first gospel written, in about 70CE (by God knows who), was NOT translated from any pre-existing Aramaic writings. The gospel was later translated into Aramaic FROM Greek.

Worryingly, the Gospel according to Mark is also written in the form of a ‘Classical Homeric Epic’, with many almost direct references and similarities that Mark’s readers would have recognized as literary techniques and allusions.

‘The Gospel according to Mark’ was written as a ‘prequel’ to the ‘coming’ of the god Caesar Vespassianus, being set 40 years in the past and ‘prophesying’ the fall of the Temple in Jerusalem, including many details of what was a recent historic event. It was destroyed BY the Caesar Vespassianus, exactly as written in ‘Mark’.

Vespasianus had commissioned Jewish turncoat Josephus to write a history of the war, which he finished in 78 C.E. (‘The Jewish War’). Josephus was adopted into Vespassianus’ family ‘Flavius’ and he took the name Flavius Josephus, becoming a propagandist for The Flavians. It is said that “History (The Antiquities) is written by the victors.” I would add that what the victors write is invariably self aggrandizing propaganda. The Torah benefited the Jews, the Qu’ran benefited the Arabs, The New Testament benefited… The ROMANS. Ah-ha!

So, having ‘lost my faith’ in an ‘historical Jesus’, how do I feel? Well, slightly saddened. actually, I will miss the guy… but I will still admire Jesus… as I admire other literary inventions… such as James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood, Harry Potter… Bilbo Baggins…

THE TWIN EVILS OF ISLAMOPHOBIA AND CATHOLICOPHOBIA?

April 11, 2013

ISLAMAPHOBIA is a catchy but erroneous label that is thrown at anyone who may love Muslims, but who hates the theology of Islam. Here is the ‘official’ definition, followed by a ‘suggested’ similar approach to the hatred of Catholic theology, because it seems it is equally wrong to attack Catholicism.

ISLAMOPHOBIA – Runnymede Trust has identified eight components that they say define Islamophobia. This definition, from the 1997 document ‘Islamophobia: A Challenge For Us All’ is widely accepted, including by the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia.
The eight components are:

1) Islam is seen as a monolithic bloc, static and unresponsive to change.
2) Islam is seen as separate and ‘other’. It does not have values in common with other cultures, is not affected by them and does not influence them.
3) Islam is seen as inferior to the West. It is seen as barbaric, irrational, primitive and sexist.
4) Islam is seen as violent, aggressive, threatening, supportive of terrorism and engaged in a ‘clash of civilisations’.
5) Islam is seen as a political ideology and is used for political or military advantage.
6) Criticisms made of the West by Islam are rejected out of hand.
7) Hostility towards Islam is used to justify discriminatory practices towards Muslims and exclusion of Muslims from mainstream society.
8) Anti-Muslim hostility is seen as natural or normal.

CATHOLICOPHOBIA – Rouxnymede Trust has identified eight components that they say define Catholicophobia. This definition, from the forthcoming document ‘Catholicophobia: A Challenge For Us All’ is widely anticipated, including by RouX’s European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia.
The eight components are:

1) Catholicism is seen as a monolithic bloc, static and unresponsive to change. Which it is. A single ‘infallible’ person heads it and he goes by an infallible 2,000 year old book of law.
2) Catholicism is seen as separate and ‘other’. It does not have values in common with other cultures, is not affected by them and does not influence them. Which it is. It is not just ‘separate and other’, it is controlled by an other worldly being! In the West we put secular law above the ‘law of god’. We put the well-being of children above the well-being of priests.
3) Catholicism is seen as inferior to the West. It is seen as barbaric, irrational, primitive and sexist. Which it is (see above). Note also there are no females in positions of authority.
4) Catholicism is seen as violent, aggressive, threatening, supportive of US terrorism and engaged in a ‘clash of civilisations’. Which it is (see also above).
5) Catholicism is seen as a political ideology and is used for political or military advantage. Which it is (see above).
6) Criticisms made of the West by Catholicism are rejected out of hand. Not always, Western Democracy admits it is far from perfect.
7) Hostility towards Catholicism is used to justify discriminatory practices towards Catholics and exclusion of Catholics from mainstream society. No, people have a right to their personal ‘beliefs’, we just want all the pedophile priests prosecuted and convicted where appropriate. We certainly want to exclude these priests from working with children.
8) Anti-Catholic hostility is seen as natural or normal. No, hostility against an organisation that protects pedophiles is natural and normal.

The EVIL of Christianity: An immoral and dangerous religion

March 31, 2013

evilOrthodox Christianity is based on ” EVIL “. It dwells in IMMORAL THEOLOGY – i.e. Jesus dying on the cross is ‘substitutionary atonement’: “God SO loved the world, that he gave his only ‘begotten’ son to die for OUR sins.” John 3:16.

This is NOT a ‘self-less sacrifice’, it is the immoral centre of an immoral theology.

♥ If your loved one is murdered and someone else who is innocent accepts the death sentence for that murder, do you STILL pursue the actual murderer? OF COURSE!!!

♥ If the family of a murdered child forgives the murderer, is a penalty still due for that murder? OF COURSE!!!!!

♥ If YOU live a blameless life and someone offers to DIE for a trivial misdemeanor that YOU have committed, like an accidental parking offence, should you let them? OF COURSE NOT!!!!

♥ Is it moral for you to LET someone else take the penalty for YOUR ‘sins’? NO!!! OF COURSE NOT!!!!

♥ Should YOU take responsibility for YOUR actions and take your punishment like a man? OF COURSE!!!!

The bizarre, sick, twisted theology of killing someone, to absolve the ‘sins’ of someone else, should be called what it IS… Primitive, ignorant, BLOOD SACRIFICE. NOT for OUR benefit, but to appease “THE GOD”.

The theology developed around Jesus’ execution for his perceived threat to Rome, was constructed by Roman Catholicism to support an even SICKER and even more EVIL theology. That of ‘original sin’! Where a woman apparently listened to a talking snake, so now every BABY that is born, is born with SIN inside!

NO!!! Anyone who has a child KNOWS they were born ‘innocent’. The Church’s doctrine of ‘original sin’ is perhaps the finest mind control tool ever, designed to develop fear of ‘Hell’ in people, through persuading people that they share ‘guilt’ for Jesus’ murder.

Please help spread the truth about this ‘evil’. Today’s celebration of BLOOD should be permanently retired and perhaps replaced with a recognition of humanity’s ‘oneness’… and a celebration of our social evolution into more enlightened beings.
